Our great Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin, from my birthplace and that of the nation, Philadelphia, famously said: "Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days."
Our 45th president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, given his success and prominence, has invited many guests into his house over the years, and one them has generated an odor that could prove fatal. His name is Michael Cohen, and coupled with his slimy Clintonista and Democratic lawyer, Lanny Davis, this "putrid fishy duo" just this week stunk up the halls of Congress and the country as whole!
Let me be clear! The constructive criticism I am about to dish to the president is not out of a lack of respect and love for all the great things he has done for our nation since he was sworn in as our chief executive and commander in chief on Jan. 20, 2017. My only criticism of him is that he has not been a good judge of character with regard to some of the people who are helping to drag him down, with a lot of help from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, rabidly leftist Democrats in Congress such as Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff to name just a few, and his do-nothing and hapless criminal defense counsel Rudy Giuliani and Jay Sekulow, both nice people but ill-suited for the task.
People like Michael Cohen should never have been allowed with a hundred miles of The Donald. A less than two-bit lawyer who went to an "unknown law school," ranked the worst in the country, Cohen's primary role as the president's former lawyer was to be a fixer – in effect, a bag man and, incredibly, vice president of the Trump Organization. As such, even though he lied through his teeth during congressional hearings this week, delighting the leftist political hacks on CNN and MSNBC in particular, not to mention those in the Pelosi-controlled House of Representatives who will surely use much of his testimony to prepare and submit articles of impeachment in the near future, even people of good faith and prudence have to be asking themselves the question, "How and why did Trump ever even invite Cohen into his house?"
The same holds true for the likes of the self-proclaimed world-record holder of "dirty tricks," Roger Stone, as well as the now-banished convicted felon Paul Manafort and the disloyal Steve Bannon, to name just a few of the shady characters who had latched onto The Donald for one reason or another. And the irony is that others in our body politic and media, because such characters were seen to be close to the president, latched on to them. As just one example, before Cohen got into serious criminal trouble, Sean Hannity often showcased Cohen on his Fox News show, even boasting that he considered "Michael" a friend and consulted with "Michael" for legal advice.
To be sure, The Donald has also associated himself with good and honest people over the years. Many of his current White House advisers and staff qualify; persons like Kellyanne Conway, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Stephen Miller. In the president's Cabinet are classy and equally competent people like Mike Pompeo, secretary of state, Ben Carson, secretary of housing and urban development, and Kirsten Nielsen, secretary of homeland security. I could go on and on.
But as the old expression goes, one rotten apple – in this case more than one – spoils the barrel.
And, notwithstanding the lack of evidence of Russian collusion or any other serious crime having been committed by President Trump or any of his decent advisers and family members, this past association with bad people is his biggest problem.
And this is a potential tragedy, because these rabid socialist/communist ultra-leftist radicals in the Democratic Party are using and will continue to use the president's past associations to more than tar and feather him. They want him politically dead if not actually dead.
That explains the traitorous acts by the likes of Pelosi and her evil committee chairmen Elijah Cummings of the House Oversight and Reform Committee and Adam Schiff of the House Intelligence Committee this week bringing before them Michael Cohen as the president was in good faith trying to make peace for the good of our country and the world with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
Seeing the politically motivated crucifixion of President Trump that was underway in our nation's Congress, this North Korean leader came to the logical conclusion that any deal he might reach over denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula would be foolhardy with an American president who will soon be impeached in the House and tried in the Senate, and then potentially removed from office. One does not have to be a rocket scientist, much less a "rocket man," to come to this conclusion.
And so it was that the second summit between President Trump and the North Korean dictator, who already has a reported stockpile of 78 nuclear warheads with intercontinental missiles to deliver them even to our shores, came to a crashing halt.
So here is one piece of future advice to someone who, if left free to do his job as the 45th president of the United States, could prove to be, should he survive, our greatest ever.
"You are seen as who you associate with! Mr. President, please learn this lesson and you will have my continued full support to defend you and your administration, as well as the support of ordinary Americans who can see through the witch hunts of the ultra-leftists attempting to destroy not just you but our way of life, as one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all!"
In the words of even the many Latinos who increasingly support you, "No Mas!" No more people like Michael Cohen can be let into your house, even as guests! Not just their fishy odor but their evil deeds could drag you and the nation back into the swamp of both Mar-a-Lago and the capital of corruption, Washington, D.C.
