Take your health care back from Obama

As Obamacare starts going into effect and Big Government “solutions” encroach evermore on your everyday medical decisions, is there anything you can do to put your health care back where it belongs – in the hands of you and your doctor?

Yes, there is.

Beginning today on WND’s Diversions page, a new column from Dr. Lee Hieb, orthopaedic surgeon and past president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, a free market medical organization, will offer wisdom and practical advice on taking your healthcare back from the bureaucrats in Washington and the doctors tucked in their hip pockets.

As she writes in the first installment of her new column “The Weekly Prescription”: “I am a practicing physician and surgeon, with over 30 years experience in hands on patient care. I have seen first hand the march to socialism, and the systematic destruction of the noble profession of medicine. … In future columns we will explore the truth of government health care around the world, and what we have to look forward to in the coming years. We will address steps individuals can take to protect themselves medically when the system fails to help them. We will discuss latest scientific breakthroughs in longevity and wellness. And we will discuss how medicine can be saved.”

Dr. Hieb began her career in medicine at age four, accompanying her father on house calls along the back roads of Iowa. After serving as a general orthopaedic surgeon stationed with the Marine Corps, she began a 25-year private practice in spinal surgery, leading her to become an outspoken advocate for free market solutions to health care.

“The topics I will be covering in my columns are not just of academic interest,” Hieb told WND. “As a practicing surgeon, these issues affect me and the health of my patients every day. My father was a physician, and my oldest son will be joining the ranks in two years. I have a very personal interest in ethical, patient-centered medicine.

“My father began his practice about the time of the Nuremburg doctor trials and was appalled at what had happened to German medicine,” she continued. “In addition to his library, which was filled with books about the Nazi medical experience, I have inherited his interest in what happened, believing that we must understand the path the Germans took if we are to avoid walking that path again.

“After being a longtime WND reader, and having had so many WND articles forwarded to me over the years, I am excited about being part of WND publication,” she continued. “I hope through my medical columns that readers will come to understand the necessity of free market medicine for a free society. Additionally, I hope to share with readers state-of-the-art medical knowledge that they won’t usually hear in the traditional medical setting – ideas that they can apply to their own wellness programs. And finally, I hope readers will share their concerns, so that we can have an ongoing medical discussion of the topics of most interest to them.”
